As an Asian immigrant, one of my favorite things about America is exploring all of its different subsets of culture. It has been so incredible to be welcomed into this nation with such open arms. Last year was my first February with my boyfriend, and as such it was my first time celebrating the great white people holiday of Valentine’s Day.
Today, I’m sharing some super cute poses for you to try this Valentine’s Day. The first half of this post will be dedicated to couples. The second half is for my single ladies, and shows you some photoshoot ideas to do with your bestie.
Boo
The Spinny Spin
This photo is super classic and cute, especially if there’s a fluffy dress involved. The most important part of this is making sure that the person spinning is being held by the hand furthest away from the camera so that it doesn’t block their face.
The French Dip
For this pose, it’s important the person being dipped has support on their lower back. I recommend that the person holding them either wraps their other arm around their person’s waist or pulls them up against gravity by the free hand. Of course you can always add a kiss or giggle to make this photo extra cute!
Love Bomb
This pose is so simple, you just drape your arms over your partner’s shoulders and look at each other. Sometimes I like the have the partner in the pack give a couple neck kisses for that extra-cheesey photo.
The Dog Toy
Literally pick them up by the waist and shake the person side to side like a dog toy. This pose is so much fun and always gets some laughs, bonus points if you surprise-combine it with the Love Bomb!
Booktok Lean
This pose is nice because you can easily swap places with your partner. Have one person lean against a surface about waist high, and then the other person can cage them in with their arms, go in for a kiss, hold onto their collar, whatever level of cutsy you’re feeling. For couples with a height difference, having one partner sit on a ledge can help balance out the photo.
Bestie
Attached at the Hip
I like to describe this photo as an elevated side-by-side. Instead of putting your hands behind each other’s back, have one person stand slightly behind the other and hang off their shoulder. I personally think this pose is a little cozier, and works well with a cute smile or a more editorial-style serious look.
Tell A Joke
I like this prompt so much more than “Say Cheese” because I think the result is a little more candid. You know your bestie best, and the moments you laugh together deserve a photo, too.
Heart Hands
However you do your hearts, I think this look is a little step up from the mutual peace sign, and is the perfect Valentine’s Day-themed pose for my girlies!
Happy Valentine’s Day kiddos! I’m such a believer in taking photos with the people you love so I hope this inspired you a little bit. If anything else, it can just be really fun to do something that feels a little bit awkward and a little bit cute with someone you’re close to. This week’s post is a little shorter, but rest assured, I have lots of examples of these poses as well as some video tutorials on my Instagram.
Also, just a little sneak peek at the rest of this month. I’m so excited for next week’s blog post about one of my own cultural holidays, Chinese New Year, and the photoshoot I’m planning for it. Over on Instagram, I’ve also vlogged the Gaslight Variety Show that I got to shoot for the sisters at Sigma Alpha Iota this weekend, and will have photos and a blog post coming out for that soon. Thanks so much for tuning in!
